Kenosha – Georgian Elizabeth (nee: Tures) Funk, 96 years young, passed away peacefully at Willowbrook Assisted Living in Kenosha, on Saturday, January 17, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.
One of 10 children, Georgian was born in Kenosha on March 5, 1929, to the late George and Evelyn (nee: Frederick) Tures. She graduated from Mary D. Bradford High School in 1947. On October 1, 1949, in St. George Catholic Church, Georgian was united in marriage with the love of her life, Everett John Funk. Sadly, he passed away on April 25, 1990.
With profound faith, Georgian was a longtime member of St. George / St. Elizabeth Catholic Church. Although her main priority in life was raising her seven beautiful children, Georgian also managed to work as head cook at Brookside Care Center for over 25 years. Among her interests, Georgian was quite the talented flower gardener who had been featured by “Keep Kenosha Beautiful”. She also enjoyed crocheting afghans as gifts for special occasions, playing cards, cooking, baking, jigsaw puzzles, and always looked forward to crafting with her daughters. “G. Surviving are her seven children, Dennis (Leigh Boswell) Funk of Whitefish Bay, WI; Eileen (Ken) Squire of Burlington, WI; Debbie (Terry) Ackerman of Edwardsville, IL; Sandy (Mike) VanKerkvoorde of Ogema, WI; Nancy (Mark) Wozney of Stockton, UT; John (Suanne) Funk of Kenosha and Mary (Steve) Williams of Port Richey, FL; 19 grandchildren, Matt Funk, Ben Funk, Tim (Laura) Funk, Katie (Pat) Nowak, Jenny (Ben Killingsworth) Wysocky, Brian Squire, Lisa (Mike) Dietrich, Janelle (Mike) Nativi, Mike Ackerman, Steve Ackerman, Abby (Justin) Swets, Jake (Dorrie) VanKerkvoorde, Ali (Nick) Crosby, Andy (Brandi) Wozney, Laura (Mike) Hrycyniak, Dan (Jessica) Funk, Samantha Funk, Kyle Williams and Kara (Nick Brown) Williams; 31 great-grandchildren, Lilli, Sawyer, Liem, Maddie, Sidney, Izzy, Will, Griffin, Ava, Sam, Lucy, Jackson, Owen, William, Andrew, Emma, Flynn, Molly, Finn, Maggie, Clara, Nathan, Braxton, Whitney, Ada, Gavin, Grayson, Logan, Emmy, Parker and Hazel; brother, Dr. John (Carol) Tures of Nashville, TN; brother-in-law, Hank Martinelli of Kenosha; sister-in-law, Dolores Leubke of Kenosha; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends – too numerous to mention all by name.
In addition to her parents and husband, Georgian was preceded in death by siblings, Evelyn (Eddie) Maginn, Nick (Patty Jo) Tures, George Tures, Larry (Bernice) Tures, Ray (Mary) Tures, Gladys (Guy) Turco, Alice Fischer, and Arlene Martinelli.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 4:00 pm in St. Elizabeth Catholic Church (corner of 8th Avenue & 48th Street in Kenosha) with Reverend Canon Sean Granger officiating. Visitation will precede the mass, starting at 3:00 pm., with a memorial dinner to follow the service. Private interment will take place on Friday morning in St. George Cemetery.
In honor of Georgia’s beloved husband, Everett, memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested in lieu of flowers.
