September 16, 1931 – December 20, 2025
Monica Schmeckel (94) was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father on December 20, 2025, surrounded by her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A devoted Christian, wife, mother of eight, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Monica’s heart overflowed with love for her family. Known for her patience, kindness, quick wit, and sense of humor, she brightened every day for those around her. She was always ready with a conversation, a hug, or a story, and her presence was a true blessing.
Monica was born to Elizabeth and Henry Mueller. She grew up alongside her five sisters, working on the dairy farm and helping with egg deliveries. She attended St. John the Baptist Grade School, St. Mary’s Academy, and graduated from St. Catherine’s in Racine. Monica then attended Marquette University, studying nursing, reflecting her compassionate nature. Her life changed forever when she met Russ, and on August 11, 1951, she began her journey as a young bride.
Her most cherished role was serving her Lord through her beloved parish, St. John the Baptist in Paris, WI. She was an active member of the church quilt guild, creating beautiful, intricate quilts each year with her friends to raise funds for the parish-a testament to her talent and generosity.
Monica’s legacy lives on through her family. She is survived by her children: Carl (Pat) Schmeckel, Andrew Schmeckel, Theresa Krupp, Lorraine (Mark) Mielke, Patricia (Dennis) Calzavara, Martha (Kent Knitt) Schmeckel, Lea Campbell, and Jonathon (Lynn) Schmeckel.
She is also survived by her sisters, Karla Uhlenhake, Paula Thomas, and Cecelia (Bruce) Koellner, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
Monica was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Russell Schmeckel; her parents, Elizabeth and Henry Mueller; sisters, Rosalie (Casmir) Zurawski and Rita (Jim) Mason; daughter-in-law, Victoria Schmeckel; and sons-in-law, Rick Campbell and David Krupp.
Though we mourn the loss of an extraordinary woman, Monica reminded us in her final hours that she lived a blessed life-one filled with love, faith, and family.
