Manfred “Manny” Markham, 78, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Kenosha Place Memory Care.
He was born on February 7, 1947, to the late Lorne and Andre Markham in Paris, France. Manny attended high school in South Milwaukee and went on to play college football at Iowa State University and UW Oshkosh, where he finished his bachelor’s degree. He later went on to obtain his Master’s degree in education.
On January 17, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Cheryle, at St. John’s Catholic Church in South Milwaukee.
Manny started his teaching career at Mary D. Bradford High School, where he first coached football and then became the head wrestling coach. He was the WIAA coach of the year in 1987. In 1990, he started teaching at Whittier Elementary. He loved working with the younger kids and worked in elementary schools until retirement in 2004.
Manny achieved his ultimate dream of building a home up north in Mercer, WI. He loved entertaining family and friends and hosting his hunting and fishing buddies. He enjoyed anything outdoors and watching the Packers and Wisconsin football teams. Manny was a family man who loved spending time with his kids and grandkids, especially teaching them to fish and swim.
Manny is survived by his wife, Cheryle, of 55 years, his daughters Kerri (Doug) Hozeska, Sara (Dan) Torresin, and Kristin (Alan) Wessel, his grandchildren Maria, Kylie, Grace (Andrei), Frank, Phoebe, Cooper, Deacon, Danny, Margot, Gavin, Madison, and Stevie, and his siblings Gerard (Janice) Markham, Richard (JoAnn) Markham, and Marie Therese (Cliff) Hershman.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held at the Bruch Funeral Home on Saturday, November 22, with visitation from 10 am until 12 pm noon, and service to follow at 12 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
