Friday, March 6th, 1931 – Wednesday, September 24th, 2025
Mary (Metallo) Stellato, 94, of Kenosha, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at Kenosha Senior Living.
Born on March 6, 1931, in Kenosha, Wisconsin, she was the daughter of the late Emil and Rose (Vena) Metallo. On April 28, 1951, she married Rosario “Russell” Stellato, and they were married for a wonderful 66 years until he preceded her in death on January 22, 2018.
Mary graduated from Mary Bradford High School in Kenosha, WI, in 1949. Her favorite job was working in the women’s section and at the candy counter at the downtown Kenosha JCPenney’s, and she was sorry to see it close in the 1980s. She continued in various retail roles, working part-time until she was 80! Her other important job was acting as the informal, but infamous, family historian. She was a life-long member of Mt. Carmel and was involved in their Ladies Society. She was also a long-time member of the Sons of Italy group in Illinois and the Italian American supporting the Ladies Auxiliary. Mary also enjoyed traveling by motorhome with her husband to Florida, Arizona, and Mexico after retirement.
Mary is survived by her siblings, Marlene (Lyle) Hasenberg and James Metallo; three children, Janet Pynaker, Vickie Stellato, and Cindy Bree; three grandchildren, Andrea (Anthony) Cervini, Rachel (Thomas Andersen Jr.) Pynaker and Justin Gohlke, and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Aria Cervini.
Along with her husband, and parents, she is preceded in death by her brother John Metallo, sister-in-law Georgeann Metallo, brother-in-law Lyle Hasenberg and niece Tina (Metallo) Gjerdset.
Visitation will be held at Proko Funeral Home on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. until the time of prayers at 11:00 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will immediately follow at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Catholic Church at 11:30 a.m. Entombment will be held at All Saints Mausoleum.
