David Alan Wente, 67, of Kenosha, WI, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 23, 2025, at his home with his loving family by his side.
Born on November 10, 1957, in Kenosha, WI; he was the son of the late Robert Hugo and Emogene Louise “Gene” (Grill) Wente. He attended local Kenosha public schools. He was a 1975 graduate of Tremper High School. He then attended UW-Madison before transferring to UW-Parkside where he earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering.
David met Janet Smith in high school and they married November 22, 1980 at St. Marks Catholic Church. Together, they had three sons. David enjoyed coaching his sons in various sports growing up and was always up for backyard pickup basketball games with his sons friends.
David especially loved golf. He took up golfing when he was 6 years old and earned many awards over the years including numerous Kenosha County championships, two hole in ones, and was a four time Kenosha Country Club Club Champion. The game of golf provided David community and some of his fondest memories relate to bucket list golf trips with family and friends.
David enjoyed spending time at Camp Wente, his family’s cabin in Lake Tomahawk, WI, where he’d look forward to fishing. He also enjoyed taking cruises with his wife and driving recklessly on his motorized bike with his beloved dog, The Mighty Quinn. He valued his friendships made through the Silver Dollar Club.
He is survived by his wife, Janet Wente of Kenosha, WI; three sons, Alex (Jasmine) Wente of Geneva, IL, Adam (Michelle) Wente of Madison, WI, and Aaron (Kim) Wente of Lansing, MI; five grandchildren, Everett, Wells, Eloise, Hugo, and Brooks; one brother, Steven Wente of Kenosha, WI; three sisters, Susan Wente of FL, Sandra (Loren) Sparks of Racine, WI, and Ann Clark of Boulder, CO. He is further survived by other loving family and friends.
David was also preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Gene Wente; his in-laws, Bill and Lois Smith; sister-in-law, LeaAnn Wente; and brother-in-law, Dave Knapp.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at Kenosha Country Club, 500 13th Avenue, Kenosha, WI, 53140. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Hospice Alliance or American Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family.
