Some people are just meant to be together forever. Gerald (Jerry) and Sharon (Mickey) Alfredson were married for 66 years. Gerald passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at the age of 87. His beloved wife Sharon passed away just 5 days later on Monday, May 19, 2025, at the age of 84. They both passed peacefully while sleeping.
Gerald was born on December 18, 1937, to George and Charlotte Alfredson. Sharon was born on September 25, 1940, to William and Evelyn Knapp. They both attended Kenosha area schools. On November 8, 1959, they were united in marriage.
Gerald attended UW Madison and graduated from UW Parkside. He worked as a data processing manager for NASA, Manpower, JTC and ultimately retired from a very successful career at Abbott Laboratories. He loved to bowl, golf, shoot pool, play cribbage and travel in his RV.
Sharon was an extraordinary homemaker and school volunteer. She advocated for all persons with special needs, especially for her son James and his friends at the Kenosha Achievement Center. Later in life, she picked up part time work just for fun and as an excuse to work with her sister or other family. Sharon loved to tell a story and always enjoyed her weekly get together with her Wednesday breakfast club.
The greatest passion Jerry and Mickey shared was a love for spending time with family and friends. They graciously hosted many gatherings at their home, known to many as the Alfredson Country Club or ACC. They never missed their grandchildren’s sporting events, plays or concerts. They always looked forward to annual family vacations, especially to the Northwoods.
Gerald and Sharon are survived by their children, Susan (Thomas) Merritt, David (Ruthann) Alfredson, James Alfredson, William (Jessica) Alfredson and Jodie (Brad) Karmann as well as their grandchildren, Dr. Amanda (Michael) Ratkovitch, Hannah (Cody) Cox, Abbey Alfredson, Max Alfredson, Elizabeth Karmann, Ethan Karmann and Victoria Alfredson; great grandchildren, Greyson and Roman Merritt, Hayes and Cooper Ratkovitch and Otto and Alfie Cox. Gerald and Sharon are further survived by siblings, Nancy Laken, Gloria Auchey, and Kathy (Raymond) Jankowski; sister-in-law, Ursula Alfredson and many beloved nieces and nephews.
They are preceded in death by their parents, Gerald’s brother, George Alfredson; brothers-in-law, Thomas Laken, Jr. and Flynn Auchey, and grandsons, Matthew and Michael Merritt.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Alby Antoo, Dr. Michael Kreager, Dr. Michael Slimack, and the nursing and therapy staffs at Aurora, Froedtert South and Brookside who took loving care of Gerald and Sharon.
Together again and for all eternity. “…And I think to myself, what a wonderful world!”
