Robert “Bob” E. McGinley, 90, passed away peacefully in the early morning of May 16, 2025.
Born in Boscobel, Wisconsin on August 30, 1934, Bob was the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Fleming) McGinley. He graduated from Gays Mills High School in 1952 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Army Security Agency during the Korean Conflict. He moved to Kenosha in the 1950s. He spent his career working for both Kenosha County and the Kenosha County Abstract Company. Bob retired from the Kenosha County Assessor’s Office in 1995.
Bob met the love of his life, Joan Slazes on the steps of the Kenosha County Court House. They began dating in April 1961 and were married eight months later, on January 27, 1962, at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Shortly thereafter they started their McGinley family with the births of their daughters Kathy, Patty and Mary.
Bob and Joan were blessed with 63 years of marriage. They enjoyed spending time with their daughters and their families – ever present to cheer on their grandchildren and to watch them grow. After retiring in 1995, Bob and Joan stayed very active. As a member of the Moose Club, Bob made many new friends while playing golf, pool and cards. He enjoyed an occasional gambling outing and a daily routine of scratch-offs with his wife. With a Busch Light in hand, Bob entertained his family with stories of growing up in Gays Mills, Wisconsin and his fond memories of the times spent with his siblings and cousins.
Bob enjoyed watching the Packers, Brewers, Badgers and Cubs – always sporting the appropriate team attire. After decades of “maybe next year,” he was thrilled when the Cubs finally won the World Series in 2016. An avid card player, Bob enjoyed playing Euchre with his family and with friends. He is very likely playing Euchre with his parents and brother Jim in Heaven right now.
Proud of his Irish heritage, Bob enjoyed the annual St. Patrick’s Day celebration with an ice-cold beer, Reuben sandwich and a viewing of The Quiet Man.
Bob was a devout Catholic, a true gentleman, a wonderful man, and he will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his loving wife Joan. The perfect Girl Dad, he is survived by his devoted daughters and sons-in-law, Kathleen (Tim) Carney, Patricia (John) Dolnik, Mary (Mark) Albrecht. He was the proud Papa and is survived by his adoring grandchildren, Tim (Shelby) Carney, Bridget (Dalton) Hendzel, Colleen (Ben) Gordon, Michael, Matthew and Ryan Dolnik and Grace, Claire and Chloe Albrecht and he was the loving Great-Papa, to James McGinley Carney.
He is further survived by his sister, Patricia McCoy of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin and many loving nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and several godchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his father-in-law, Stephen Slazes; his mother-in-law, Julia Slazes; his brother, Jim; his brothers-in-law, Bill McCoy and Ray Fraid; his sisters-in-law, Chancy McGinley and Julie Fraid, and his nieces, Carol Dyutka, Christina Dale and Kim Dams.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Friedl, Dr. Knight, and the compassionate staff at the Cancer Center in Kenosha. A very special thank you goes to Hospice Alliance and to the loving staff at Library Terrace Assisted Living whose tender care and kindness provided comfort to Bob and his family.
