The Kenosha Hometown Heroes Commission named Patrick Langston II as its 2025 fourth-quarter Hometown Hero, recognizing his distinguished service in the U.S. Navy and his continued commitment to veterans and community advancement. Langston received his formal recognition during the Common Council meeting on Jan. 5, 2026.
Established in December 2015, the Kenosha Hometown Heroes Program honors men and women who have served or are serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and who have demonstrated outstanding personal achievement and positive contributions to the Kenosha community. Honorees must have been born in Kenosha, currently reside in the city, or have lived in Kenosha for at least 10 years.
Langston is a decorated U.S. Navy veteran, community leader, and nonprofit executive. He served on active duty as a petty officer second class (E-5) from June 15, 2008, to May 13, 2013. During his service, he earned a meritorious promotion from the commanding officer of the I Marine Expeditionary Force. Lanston also achieved the Fleet Marine Force warfare specialist designation.
Hometown Hero Military Experience
His military training included Navy Recruit Training Command; Hospital Corpsman “A” School; Field Medical Training Battalion at Camp Pendleton, California; the Combat Lifesaver Instructor Course at Camp Pendleton; and biomedical equipment technician training at Fort Sam Houston, Texas.
Langston completed pre-deployment training in Twentynine Palms, California, in 2009. He was deployed to Afghanistan in 2010 as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. In 2011, he served under I Marine Expeditionary Force with the 9th Battalion and 1st Intelligence Battalion. While there, he worked as a combat lifesaver trainer, preparing Marine units for deployment.
His military honors include the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Good Conduct Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, NATO Medal, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Navy Unit Commendation, and Combat Action Ribbon.
Beyond Active Duty Service
Following his active-duty service, Langston continued supporting veterans through roles with the Federal Health Care Center–Veterans Affairs and the Veterans Benefits Administration, assisting service members with health care access and benefits navigation.
Beyond his professional career, Langston has demonstrated strong leadership in community service. He has mentored veterans transitioning to civilian life, providing guidance in education, entrepreneurship, and financial literacy. He remains active and involved in community events honoring veterans and their families.
Langston is the co-founder and executive director of The Spears Foundation. The Spears Foundation is a nonprofit focused on education, family support, and career advancement. Under his leadership, the organization has become a key resource for youth and families across the region. He also organizes Kenosha’s largest annual Christmas event, distributing more than 2,000 toys and bringing the community together for a holiday celebration.
In addition, Langston has supported youth education initiatives through Building Our Future, served as a youth coach with the Boys & Girls Club, and as a St. Joseph Catholic Academy girls basketball coach. He helped raise funds for local scholarships through The Spears Foundation and Gus’s Championships for Change. He is also involved with Readers Are Leaders through United Way, the UW-Parkside Alumni Association, the Kenosha Innovation Neighborhood as a community partner, and the Building Our Future leadership table.
