Union Grove native Carolyn Preston has been named this year’s recipient of the Frank Lamping Community Service Award.
Preston is co-owner of the Union Grove Piggly Wiggly and a longtime community advocate, often operating under the radar while providing a helping hand to those in need.
“There’s just an enormous number of people to thank for me to be able to achieve the things I’ve been involved in,” Preston said. “It’s really a team effort in this community.”
Community State Bank created the annual Frank Lamping Community Service Award. Recipients are chosen by a committee of local community leaders.
“Carolyn is all in when it comes to serving her community,” Community State Bank SVP | Market President David Moyer said. “Like Frank, she dedicates her time and talent quietly and behind the scenes.”
A ceremony will take place on Thursday, Sept. 25, at Community State Bank, 1500 Main St., in Union Grove. The community event takes place from 5 to 7 p.m. with an awards ceremony at 6 p.m. Food and beverages will be available.
Each year’s recipient receives $1,000 to donate to a local nonprofit or service organization. Russ Eichner of Transcend Advisory Group recently announced he will match this year’s $1,000 donation.
The award is named after longtime community champion Frank Lamping. Lamping was a member of the Union Grove Lions Club for 30 years and is actively involved in many local organizations.
Lamping was the inaugural Frank Lamping Community Service Award recipient on Sept. 5, 2019. He died on June 18, 2020.
Preston was inspired by Lamping’s impact on the community, especially his connection with local youth. She is a board member and coach for the Union Grove Youth Baseball Association and was instrumental in starting the organization’s girls fastpitch softball league.
“Frank was big on everything local, everything Union Grove,” Preston said. “Frank was committed to being a leader and a volunteer, and an example for youth. Anything you asked Frank to do, he would give his time and talents.”
Past winners of the Frank Lamping Community Service Award include Tom Czerniak (2020), James Moyer (2021), Cary Madrigal (2022), Gerry Hancock (2023), and Jason Callewaert (2024).
