Shalom Center Board of Directors unanimously appoints Esther Roberts as the new Executive Director of the local non-profit

Shalom Center is a homeless shelter, soup kitchen, and food pantry serving Kenosha for over 40 years.

Kenosha WI, (May 2, 2025) Shalom Center is excited to announce that Esther Roberts has been named the new Executive Director of the local non-profit. Her first day as Executive Director is May 2nd. Roberts has served as the Interim Executive Director for the last three months. For the last two years, she was the Shalom Center Housing Case Manager. Under her interim leadership, Shalom Center has been able to maintain and improve its services to the community.

“I am honored and deeply grateful to accept the promotion to serve as Executive Director of the Shalom Center. I would like to extend my heartfelt thanks to the Board of Directors, staff, and community members for your trust and confidence in my leadership,” expressed Esther Roberts.

Esther Roberts has more than 14 years of housing experience in ensuring access to safe, affordable housing. She had leadership roles in the areas housing programs, neighborhood enhancement and housing regulation. Roberts was the Co-Chair of the Homeless Awareness and Prevention Partnership. Esther also volunteered with the Veterans Outreach of Wisconsin Tiny House Project and Habitat for Humanity. She holds a Bachelor’s of Science in Criminal Justice and an Associates Degree in Communication.

The Executive Board undertook a strategic search process, which resulted in interviews with qualified candidates. “Esther’s experience, leadership, and passion for our mission set her apart from the others,” stated Steve Hartfield, Shalom Center Board Chair. “We are confident in her abilities and thrilled she accepted the position,” continued Hartfield.

With an involved Board of Directors, strong management team, dedicated employees, and a volunteer base of over 400, Esther Roberts will be well supported in her role as Executive Director of Shalom Center.
