No end-of-summer blues at Kenosha YMCA

No matter the time of year, there are always plenty of options for everyone to enjoy at the Kenosha YMCA.

Fall is certainly no exception.

So as the kids start heading back to school and the days start getting a little shorter, now is a perfect time to check out the many fall programs available at the YMCA, 7101 53rd St.

“We’ve always got a lot going on here at the Y,” says YMCA Senior Director Tenille Thornton. “Now that school’s going to be starting back up, if you’re looking for something to do for yourself or for your kids, the Fall I Program Guide is out now.”

Indeed, the YMCA’s Fall I Program Guide can be viewed HERE, and it’s packed with plenty of great offerings.

Per usual, fall programming includes the YMCA’s always popular drop-in group fitness classes. With over 60 of these offered per week, the drop-in group fitness classes come included at no extra charge with a YMCA membership.

The Fall I Program also features some additional new offerings (with a fee), including a Learn to Dance Class for adults on Tuesday nights that will teach the Foxtrot and swing dancing, among other great moves. There are also some great pool classes, including Aqua Flow and Deep Water Aerobics.

And for the youth age groups, the Fall I Program this year includes volleyball classes, lacrosse classes and a youth basketball league. And, as always, the YMCA’s youth swim team, the Jaguars, is a great option for young swimmers.

Member registration for the Fall I Program began this past Monday (Aug. 14). General public registration begins next week Monday (Aug. 21). YMCA members get priority registration and discounted prices for Fall I Programs.

The 8-week Fall I Program sessions then begin on Monday, Aug. 28, and runs through Oct. 22. You can register online at kenoshaymca.org or by stopping in at the YMCA front desk. For general inquiries, call 262-654-9622.

“Membership is always great,” Thornton said. “We’ve got a ton of members. We’ve got every possible age and demographic. Everybody belongs here at the YMCA.

“I encourage everybody to sign up. There’s something for everybody to do.”

Additionally, the Kenosha YMCA will be hosting Fall Fest, a free family event, on Saturday, Oct. 7, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Also of note, the YMCA will be closed from Thursday, Aug. 24, through Sunday, Aug. 27, for a scheduled maintenance shutdown, as the facilities get cleaned and prepared for the fall season and beyond. The gymnasium and studios will be closed for resurfacing beginning Tuesday, Aug. 22, and are projected to reopen on Thursday, Aug. 31.
