KTEC to deliver some Halloween fun with three shows of ‘The Addams Family’ this weekend

A Kenosha charter school known for proficiency in math and science is showing off its appreciation for the arts this weekend.

Kenosha School of Technology Enhanced Curriculum performs “The Addams Family” on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 28-29) at KTEC-West, 5710 32nd Ave. 

Showtimes are 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at the door. The cost is $13 for general admission, $11 for senior citizens and $6 for students and staff.

“The Addams Family” is a musical comedy featuring America’s most outlandish cast of characters, composed of over 40 KTEC students (cast and crew) from the school’s East and West campuses.

The one-hour production is directed by KTEC middle school choir director Shannon Robertson, assisted by KTEC-West’s Christian Enwright and Leah Enwright and choreographed by Bradford High School senior Devon Henningfield.

“It’s a show about all different types of people coming together as one,” Enwright said. “And it’s pretty funny too.”

Wednesday Addams (played by Amelia Noble) falls in love with respectable, young man Lucas Beineke (Brody Hodges) and seeks her parents — Morticia Addams (Zabella Mejos) and Gomez Addams (Orlando Zetina-Gutierrez) — approval for marriage.

When the Addams invite the Beineke family over for a “normal” family dinner, hilarity ensues.

Mejos, a Kenosha Unified School District Spelling Bee champion and former Badger State Spelling Bee finalist, returns to the stage in a different role.

“It’s been a lot of fun playing Morticia,” said Mejos, an eighth grader at KTEC-West. “It’s been fun being with the cast and having such a close, family bond and connection with everyone. Spelling is a lot more stressful.”

Enwright said Mejos was one of the few cast members familiar with “The Addams Family” TV show, a sitcom that debuted years before their parents were born.

“Most of them had no idea about the TV show,” Enwright said. “(Robertson) told them all to go home and watch it on Amazon. We all watched a few episodes to get a feel for it.”

KTEC is one of two local theater groups performing “The Addams Family” this weekend. Lakeside Players continues its three-weekend run of the show on Oct. 28-30 and Nov. 4-5.
