Volunteers needed: Pike River Clean-Up scheduled for Sept. 17

For over 10 years now, the Pike River Clean-Up has aimed to beautify one of Kenosha’s top natural treasures, as volunteers have pulled out more than 240 tires — an average of about 25 per year — from the Pike River during the annual event.

The annual Pike River Clean-Up will be held Saturday, Sept. 17.

Supported by the Kenosha Sportfishing and Conservation Association, this year’s Pike River Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. Volunteers will gather at Petrifying Springs Park Parking Lot No. 4.

The Pike River Clean-Up is for all ages and skill levels. According to a press release, the goal is “to keep the Pike River enjoyable for all — kayakers, fishermen, runners, joggers and environmentalists.”

Some of the items recommended for volunteers to bring are work shoes, knee-high boots, work gloves, work coveralls, hip boots or waders, reacher sticks or long steel rakes, canoes, kayaks or flat-bottom boats and fishing magnets,

Additionally, the Kenosha Sportfishing and Conservation Association is seeking sponsors and donations for the Pike River Clean-Up. If you’re a small business, private donor or corporation, the cost is $200 per sponsor. This pays for food, snacks, water, gloves, trash bags and transportation and also supports KSFCA club activities.
