Working Artist Holiday Sale set for Sunday at the Kenosha Union Club

After a one-year hiatus, the 14th Working Artist Holiday Sale returns 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday (Dec. 12) at the Kenosha Union Club, 3030 39th Ave.

Admission is free.

The Holiday Sale, previously held at the Southport Beach House, features around 25 artists, several of whom are from Kenosha. 

Art and mediums of all varieties present shoppers with opportunities to purchase items such as ceramics, drawings, fiber arts, gourds, glass, hand-bound books, jewelry, paintings, photography, prints, soap, woodwork and more. 

Several of the artists are active in the southeastern Wisconsin art community, participating in classes, workshops, and special events at the Racine Art Museum, Lemon Street Gallery, Carthage College, Wustum Museum of Fine Arts and Kenosha Public Museum.

Kenosha resident and participating artist Melody Bigalke and her daughters Lisa and Rebecca BIgalke have coordinated the event for the last 14 years.  

After a withdrawal from last year’s sale due to COVID-19 concerns, the trio is happy to return in 2021 with a fresh start at a new location.

The event offers artists a platform to display and sell their art, while at the same time allowing opportunities for the public to interact with the artists.

Local artist Kelly WItte began her partnership with the event in 2018 and four years later, she’s still just as excited to be involved.

“I will have a booth full of small and glitzy works including hand-sewn brooches, hand-sculpted cupcake ornaments, hand-sculpted donut ornaments, ugly sweater ornaments, Polish paper star ornaments, hand-pulled art prints, and a few other fun retro-inspired surprises,” Witte said.

Ashlee Rosko, another unique Kenosha artist, will showcase mind-blowing tie-dye designs with her art partner and mentor, Yano Harris. 

“Yano is my mentor who is passing the torch (of tie-dye techniques) to the younger generation,” Rosko said. “We’re excited to share our tie dye with our local community in hopes that our colors spread some Christmas cheer.”
